Need a Weekend Project? Build a Windmill

Wind and solar vigor are becoming more and more mainstream these days. Now more than ever homeowners are also implementing green vigor sources as a way to sacrifice their electricity bills. If you have ever determined wind vigor as a means of powering your home, why not build a windmill?

I can hear you now thinking, yeah sure, me build my own windmill. It's not as far fetched as you may think. Windmills are not some complicated, mad scientist type machinery. Many others have successfully built their own, why not you as well?

Dc High Voltage Regulator

The uncomplicated truth is that once you have all of the materials in place, you can certainly build a wind turbine in as minute as one weekend. I can hear you reasoning again, what materials do I need and where do I get them?

Let's start with what tools you will need. What if I told you all you would need are a screwdriver set, small socket set, jigsaw, maybe a small hand grinder and some sandpaper.

Doesn't sound too involved now does it?

Alright now let's see what parts and materials you will need. We'll go down the list and witness what we need, why we need it, and where we can get it.

Battery-preferably a deep cycle or marine battery. Some call these trolling motor batteries. The battery will be used to store the excess electricity once your windmill begins operating.

Blades-these can be made from high density hardwood, glass fiber,Abs or Pvc pipe. If using Pvc pipe it will need to be coated with Uv protector to enlarge its lifetime. It's pretty sure why we need blades, so on to the next step.

Hub- we need a hub to attach the blades to. The hub can be made from a metal pulley. You can find a convenient pulley at a hardware store, or an old automotive pulley can also be used. A very good hub can be made from a pulley used on high execution engines, so your local speed shop would be a good place to find one.

Electric motor-we need a small Dc electric motor to originate current which will be stored in the deep cycle battery. These can certainly be found online or at an electric motor mend shop.

Tail-the tail adds stability and balance to your windmill. Scrap sheet metal from an auto salvage yard or from old appliances can be used.

Charge controller-this acts like a voltage regulator on a car. It prevents overcharging the battery. You can find these at electrical contribute market or even cheaper online.

Ac inverter-this converts our Dc current from the battery to household current. Try Radio Shack or go online for the best price.

So there you have it. These are the materials needed to build a windmill. Not exactly rocket science is it? Once you learn how to assemble these pieces together it becomes much clearer how certainly uncomplicated it is to start producing your own energy.
